DigiScribe
allows MicroScribe users to input 3D data into LightWave version 6
through 8.5 in 4 different modes:
· Point Mode
· Curve Mode
· Polygon Mode
· Primitive Mode |

DigiScribe is a Retinal Reality plugin for LightWave Modeler
that connects to the Immersion MicroScribe 3D Desktop Digitizing System,
giving animators a fast and easy way to translate irregular, organic and
odd-shaped objects from the real world directly into LightWave. At the touch
of a button, 3-D polygons, surfaces, primitives, points and curves are translated
into LightWave simply by tracing the MicroScribe over real objects. DigiScribe
launches directly from LightWave Modeler allowing animators to move back
and forth between generating geometry with the MicroScribe and using all
of LightWave's powerful and familiar modeling tools. DigiScribe is simple
to load and appears as the "DigiScribe" function under the LightWave
Modeler Additional menu.
It is currently available for LightWave 6.0
through 8.5 running Windows Me, NT, 2000 and XP. DigiScribe REQUIRES the serial version of the Microscribe (NOT the USB version, sorry).
A 30-day trial version of DigiScribe
can be downloaded here (version 1.15):

Display Panel
Select 3D Mode. Panel displays real time X, Y, Z coordinates of MicroScribe
tip, number of points entered and help messages. |
 |
 |
Preferences
Panel
Set control parameters for each specific mode, such as Polygon Merge
Distance, Auto Plot Interval Distance, Primitive Segments, Minimum
Sphere Segments, Minimum Primitive Sides, and Scale. |
Point
Mode
In Point Mode the user can create individual points, or auto-plot
points at a specified interval distance when sweeping the MicroScribe
through space. This is especially useful for tracing the surface of
irregular objects. |
 |
 |
Curve
Mode
In Curve Mode the user can create spline curves, closed curves or
curves constrained in the X, Y or Z plane. Objects with curved surfaces
are easy to create with the DigiScribe by tracing a few curves over
the object's surface and then creating a polygon patch from the set
of curves. |
Polygon
Mode
In Polygon Mode the user can create polygons with any number of sides
or strips of quad or triple polygons over the surface of a 3D object.
When points are placed close together, DigiScribe automatically merges
the polygons, creating continuous surfaces from mixed quads, triples
and multifaceted polygons. |
 |
 |
Primitive
Mode
Create boxes, circles, cones spheres and disks with a minimum number
of points entered. Just add two points, top left and bottom right
corners, to create a box. Three points will create a circle through
those points. Options such as the number of sides and segments are
adjustable in the Preferences Panel. |
